Features:

Versatility is the name of Virtuosa’s game. An impressive set of features, many of which extend beyond the traditional scope of jukebox players, awaits buyers. Standards such as playlist management and support of multiple file formats are accompanied by extras such as audio editing and mixing.

A handy set of buttons manage much of the programs functionality. The management of playlists, CD writing, CD playing, and most other basic music file functions are all easily launched from here. Album art is neatly displayed in a separate window.

More advanced features are present as well. The software supports a variety of file types, which can be converted with an easy-to-use utility. An editing feature allows for the normalizing of audio files. Customization with skins and visualizations is possible. And some nifty features not found in many of the other products we reviewed are here as well, including a mixer to edit audio tracks and the ability to print CD and DVD labels.

File Formats:

Virtuosa Gold supports an impressive variety of audio file formats, and the program has the ability to convert files from one format to another. Video formats are also supported.

Ease of Use:

Most of the features of Virtuosa are simple to find and easy to use. Even more features, such as the audio mixer, are relatively easy to put to work. But users may find the interface takes some getting used to. Different utilities open within different windows, and with a few open the screen can become cluttered very quickly. Drop-down menus for some features only add to the clutter. The volume control inexplicably opens in its own window outside of the program window. New users may easily become a little lost with so much happening on the screen, and in fact the product comes off as being more complex than it really is. While buttons are large and clearly labeled, they have a clipart look to them that may turn off those hoping for a product with a more polished look.

Help & Support:

A help menu opens the Virtuosa help feature, containing a list of topics that can be browsed or searched. Coverage of topics is good, but if users need more there is a Getting Started guide and a link that enables submission of a help request via email. The website also contains a user forum.
